Why do people have problems with their feet?

The foot is always in motion and under enormous pressure from the body’s weight. The pressure on the heel when walking can be up to 1.5 times one’s body weight and up to 3.5 times when running. As you walk or run, your entire weight lands on your feet, up to 15,000 times a day. Several factors will vary the stress we put upon our feet such as: 1) the hours we spend on our feet, 2) the type of surface we stand on, 3) the type of footwear we wear, 4) our body weight + load we’re carrying, 5) type of activity, and 6) any relevant medical conditions.

Being supported by a sound structure underneath us can make the difference between having pain and fatigue or not. When the foundation is biologically or mechanically incorrect, your stance and the way you move will suffer.

Like the old saying “The foot bone connected to the leg bone and the leg bone connected to the thigh bone….”: A little problem in the feet can become a bigger problem in the knees, hips, back or even neck. When a biomechanical problem exists it can create tension on muscles, tendons, ligaments, joints, blood vessels and nerves.

As the body ages the feet in particular are less able to withstand the stresses of standing and walking. This results in the formation of calluses, corns and thickened nails.
Diabetic and Arthritic patients need to take extra precautions when it comes to foot care because of the many foot complications associated with these diseases.

Sole Decisions provides a wide range of orthotics, footwear and footwear modifications to support your feet.
